Farm Fest

Every Fall our dear friends, the Grahams, host a Fall party on their property in east Texas. Every year it has grown a little bigger. This year will be the 4th, I think. My boys live to do this.

In past years we have painted pumpkins and faces, carved pumpkins, taken hay rides, had wheelbarrow races, scarecrow stuffing contests, water balloon launches (ouch), roasted hot dogs and marshmallows, and put puzzles together in leisure time. The highlight of the weekend though, is the Scavenger Hunt. This is serious business. Our host Ruthie, is a genius in coming up with the clues and rhymes and hiding places. Lock-up the children, because this is a no-holds barred, all-out team competition. Otherwise sane, mature and kind people turn into fierce, draw-blood-if-you-get-in-my-way competitors. There are actual prizes, but that is not really the point. The point is to WIN!

Ruthie has been traveling quite a bit lately and decided that doing the Scavenger Hunt was too much work this year. We tried to hide our disappointment. Rumor has it that the hunt is in the planning stages right now after all. Look out fellow Farm Fest fans, we are getting our games faces on!
