What a difference a week can make in the weather.
Last Friday we were supposed to go on a Cub Scout Family camping trip. We have never been camping, so this was going to be a big adventure for the Jenkins family. (Mark claims he loves to camp. I am not a camper though, thank you very much.) We have a nice big tent, sleeping bags, mats, lamps and tarps. Mark had planned our meals and even purchased a camp stove. My living room was full of camping gear all ready to be loaded into the van. The weather on Wednesday and Thursday had been beautiful.
The weather on Friday was different; severe thunderstorms were predicted for our area. The camping trip was cancelled. The boys were very disappointed, so we decided to set up the tent in the backyard and have our own little camp out. I had visions of family togetherness, going to bed early and sleeping well in the fresh air. humph
We settled into the tent around 8:30. We were prepared to run to the house if a big rainstorm came, but we were not worried. It did not rain, at least not during the night. However, the heat index was still 95 degrees at 11:15 p.m. Mark, Jackson and I took turns drifting off to sleep. Jonathan could not sleep at all. It was too hot! We were all miserable, but I was not going to be the wimpy girl and be the first to give up. Finally, at about 12:30 Mark had had all he could take. We quickly retreated to the wonder of air conditioning and slept comfortably in our own beds.
Now one week later, the weather is once again beautiful. It is starting to really feel like Fall this morning. The boys actually wore jackets to school for the first time this year. I am thinking this may be a taco soup night.
