You Say Tom-ah-to...

Another blogger had this quiz posted today. Since I am a sucker for a fun quiz, I took it. It says that I have a "Midland" accecent. While I realize this is probably a good thing, I serioulsy doubt these results. I have lived in the south my entire life. The list of places I have lived goes like this:

Camden, Arkansas
Pearisburg, Virginia
Charlotte, North Carolina
Irving, Texas
Camden, Arkansas
Conway, Arkansas (college)
Camden, Arkansas
Hot Springs, Arkansas
Fort Worth, Texas
Conway, Arkansas

With that list do you really think I could sound "midland"? I doubt it and am fairly sure that I do not. Accents are funny things. If I am really listening, I can hear a difference in a southern Arkansas accent and a central Arkansas accent. Really.

Take the quiz. Do you think it is accurate?

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Midland

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

The Inland North
The South
The West
The Northeast
Philadelphia
Boston
North Central

The quiz was fun, but man I have issues with it. It said I have a midland accent or basically no accent. Clearly anyone who as ever heard me speak would disagree with that. I have a "HICK ACCENT". I think I should trademark that phrase....
